NELSON DRYDOCK at Rotherhithe - opened in 1707, the drydock was bought by Mills & Knight in 1890 and operated by them until its closure in 1960. The drydock was then taken over by RYE ARC from 1960 - 1968 who planned a modern drydock but the scheme never took off. The black crane seen to the left was added in the early 1980s when plans to turn the drydock into a marina for small boats was trialed. The drydock was bought by the Hilton hotel around 1988 and filled with water as can be seen today. It is one of the very few Thames drydocks in near original conditon unspoilt today
